Leaving and returning: when to check a re-entry permit

Before buying tickets

If you rely on an extension of stay, check before travelling whether a re-entry permit is needed to preserve it. The official procedure uses TM.8 and passport/status evidence. A multiple-entry visa and preservation of an existing stay period are different mechanisms. A re-entry permit should not be treated as an extension of the stay deadline.

After returning

Compare the arrival endorsement with the documents used for return. Resolve an apparent date error promptly with Immigration. Update the reporting calendar and check TM.30 with the host. Review each family member separately: the main applicant’s permit does not replace the spouse’s or child’s own documents and endorsements.
